Founder and long time SoHo resident, Henry Buhl, was approached in 1992 by a homeless man asking for money. Henry offered him a job sweeping the street in front of his building and rallied nearby stores to do the same. This led to providing jobs for more homeless individuals and supplied the community with much needed improvement services.

The Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless (A.C.E.), is a not-for-profit, community based organization. A.C.E.'s local initiatives, the SoHo and TriBeCa Partnerships, offer an intensive four month job training and placement program. After graduating the program, continuing support is available to help participants deal with the new challenges of working full time.

As we are 99% privately funded, financial support of community businesses and residential partners is critical to our continued success. We are passionate about supporting our participants along every step of the journey as they reclaim their lives and become self-reliant. We are equally proud that 87% of our graduates remain employed full time.
