The unique community of SoHo is made up of artists, residents, restaurants, businesses and world class shopping. These are also our partnership members and they see value in what we do to rehabilitate the homeless. As part of our vocational training, our participants perform community service jobs that benefit the neighborhood.
- Sweep streets and remove refuse - approximately 15,000 pounds of refuse daily
- Provide tree care and snow removal
- Empty garbage receptacles
Our participants perform these neighborhood improvement projects while learning the skills required for full time employment. We believe they are additionally motivated to succeed because of the support from the community. People who were once homeless find great pride in cleaning their city and having the community thank them.
Our connections to the community allow us to find challenging internship opportunities for our participants. These internships provide much needed experience in a real world work setting and often lead to full time positions. Successful internships have been provided by L’Artisan Parfumeur, McNally Robinson Booksellers, Patagonia and The Tank Theater.
The following businesses have shown great confidence in our graduates and have hired them for full time employment. Anthropologie, L’Artisan Parfumeur, Patagonia, Replay, SoHo Reprographics and The Joyce Theater.
We are grateful for all of our community’s involvement.
